The capital city of the state that shares its name, San Luis Potosí was once a gold and silver mining town and is now known for its elaborate churches, like the Templo de San Francisco, surrounded by the Jardín de San Francisco. 

Morelia, MICH

Filled with pink stone buildings that date back to the 1700s, Morelia is known for its stunning cathedral and for the UNESCO World Heritage Site at the city’s center.

Matehuala, SLP

Situated north of the city of San Luis Potosí, Matehuala lies in a plateau of the Sierra Madre Oriental and is known for its mining, copper smelting, and maize farming industries.

Villa Hidalgo, SLP

This small town near the city of San Luis Potosí is home to the beautiful San José Cathedral, a popular destination for weddings, baptisms, and First Communions.

Celaya, GTO

Located northwest of Mexico City, Celaya features beautiful Spanish Colonial buildings like the Templo de San Francisco and the Celaya Cathedral.

San Felipe, GTO

Nicknamed San Felipe Torres Mochas, this small city has a charming town square with a parish church and offers easy access to Dolores Hidalgo, San Diego de la Unión, and San Luis Potosí.

San Diego de la Unión, GTO

This charming small town is centrally located between San Luis Potosí, San Felipe, and Dolores Hidalgo, making it a good starting point for traveling to other cities as well as a place people go for family reunions.

Dolores Hidalgo, GTO

Known as the “Cradle of National Independence,” Dolores Hidalgo holds the Dolores Parish Church, where Miguel Hidalgo first uttered the “Cry of Dolores” that urged Mexicans to fight for their independence from Spain. The Hidalgo House Museum has exhibits about him. 

San Miguel de Allende, GTO

If you love art and culture, you’ll want to visit San Miguel de Allende, known for its seasonal festivals. The city is also filled with beautiful Spanish colonial buildings, like the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, which has soaring pink towers.

Salvatierra, GTO

Nestled among the mountains and bisected by the Lerma River, this temperate, scenic city holds many historic buildings, like the Nuestra Señora del Carmen, renowned for its beautiful altar made from pink stone.

Salamanca, GTO

This city along the Lerma River is nicknamed the “Granary of Mexico” for all the wheat, maize, chickpeas, beans, and fruits that grow here. It’s also a major manufacturing city and a hub for train service.
